The city of Hamilton is nestled on the banks of the mighty Waikato River. It is NZ’s largest inland city and the centre of one of the richest
agricultural and pastoral areas in the world.

“Stellar came with fast and effective development of the cube product. The consenting data model is one of the more complex systems at the council, and the Stellar developers gripped it up fast and delivered a great product.”
Nathan Dalgety, Council Analytics Programme Manager
The challenge
Hamilton is one of the fastest-growing cities in New Zealand. In order to optimise the response to growth, HCC requires a clear and coherent picture of the city to inform decision making on strategic, financial, infrastructure, community and planning matters. They need reporting models to support strategic decision making and tactical operations. They used to hold the underlying models in many disconnected information systems and repositories. This results in the data being used in various capacities, with numerous versions and with disparate meanings, across several different business units. Finally, analytical products currently created are supported by the analysts who created them. This support model inherently increases the risk to the organisation, through a lack of governance and oversight, and the
dependence on single individuals.
The solution
“Stellar came with fast and effective development of the cube product. The consenting data model is one of the more complex systems at the council, and the Stellar developers gripped it up fast and delivered a great product,” says Nathan Dalgety, Council Analytics Programme Manager
Before Stellar
Hamilton City Council relied on one individual. The person needed to manage and query the consenting data model for the entire organisation.
Stellar services
The Stellar team developed the cube product extremely fast and effective. “I would recommend Stellar services,” says Nathan.
The benefits
- Less reliance on our Analytics team to pull ad-hoc data requests
- Business users now have access to more cohesive and reliable datasets
- Less reliance on one individual to manage the data models
